After Baloo made it to Huntsville, he spent most of the week relaxing. On Friday, April 22, we took him to the lakehouse just outside Arley, Alabama on Smith Lake. He really liked it there. He wanted to go fishing in the lake but I told him it might be a little too deep for him. Smith Lake is a VERY deep lake. In case, you don't know about the lake, I will share a little information:
ReplyDeleteIt's proper name is Lewis Smith Lake and it has over 500 miles of shoreline. The lake was created by Alabama Power in the early 1960's. The workers built a HUGE earthen dam that is 300 feet tall and 2,200 feet long! They put a power-house at the dam and it provides electrical power to a wide area. There are numerous creeks and branches that provide water to the lake but the main channels are the Sipsey River, Rock Creek, and Ryan Creek. The lake is considered one of the cleanest lakes in the United States. Much of the shoreline is rock so the water stays clean and clear. Alabama Power varies the water level on the lake from 496 feet above sea level in the winter-time to 510 feet above sea level in the summer-time. The lake is a popular place for fishermen, with striped bass, largemouth bass, crappie, and catfish.
Anyway, Baloo had a great weekend and we came home last night. He said he is ready for some rest while I go back to work this week.
